  3. anterior lobe secretes hormones, some of
  4. which control the activities of other glands
  5. (thyroid, gonads, and adrenal cortex); others
  6. are direct-acting hormones affecting milk
  7. secretion, and controlling growth. Secretions
  8. of the posterior lobe control body water
  9. balance, and contraction of the uterus. The
  10. posterior lobe is regulated by nerves from
  11. the hypothalamus, and thus forms a link
  12. between the nervous and hormonal systems.
